AFP (Maputo) - Aid workers in flood-hit Mozambique said they were fighting to contain an outbreak of cholera Wednesday, which has sickened 282 people. Cholera had struck three districts, a United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) representative told AFP. "We have 282 cases as of today," said Emanuele Capobianco.

Plusieurs cas de choléra ont été signalés dans la province de l'Equateur et du bas Congo (RD Congo) en 2012. En 2013, des cas sont enregistrés à Lubumbashi (Katanga). Cette maladie est due essentiellement au manque d'hygiène, d'après les experts.

Cholera confirmed in northern Mozambique

RDC: le choléra a fait 76 morts au Katanga en deux mois

Plus de deux mille trois cents cas de choléra, dont soixante-seize décès, ont été enregistrés à Lubumbashi et dans plusieurs territoires du Katanga, du 2 décembre 2012 au 3 février 2013. La prise en charge de malades se fait convenablement, ont indiqué plusieurs sources médicales, insistant toutefois sur la nécessité de sensibiliser la population à observer les mesures d’hygiène et à consommer une eau potable. 

Cholera Outbreak in Eastern DRC

The Ministry of Health has cautioned the general public to be alert following a cholera outbreak in Goma, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo. According to reports, the outbreak has so far left one dead and six hospitalized at Katindo Refugee Camp.
